Editorial Policy
How we gather, verify, and publish information about global conflicts.
Fact-Checking Methodology
Every claim published on WarEcho goes through a multi-step verification process before publication:
- Primary source identification. We trace every claim to its original source: official government statements, military communiques, verified footage, or on-the-ground reporting from recognized outlets.
- Cross-referencing. No single-source claims. We require at least two independent sources before publishing a fact as confirmed. When only one source exists, we attribute explicitly ("according to..." or "claims...").
- Contested claims labeling. When parties to a conflict make contradictory claims, we present both versions with clear attribution and note any available evidence supporting either side.
- Ongoing verification. Published articles are updated as new information becomes available. Every update is timestamped.
Source Standards
We rely on the following source categories, in order of priority:
Tier 1: Primary Sources
Official government and military statements, UN reports, IAEA reports, ICRC data, court documents, verified satellite imagery.
Tier 2: Wire Services
Associated Press (AP), Reuters, Agence France-Presse (AFP). These maintain reporters on the ground with editorial standards we trust.
Tier 3: Major Outlets
Al Jazeera, BBC, CNN, The Guardian, The New York Times. Used for secondary confirmation and context.
Tier 4: OSINT & Regional
Open-source intelligence (satellite imagery, flight tracking, social media verification), regional outlets. Used with additional caution and explicit attribution.
We do not use anonymous social media posts as sources unless independently verified. State-controlled media (RT, IRNA, Xinhua) is cited with explicit "state media" labeling.
Neutrality Commitment
WarEcho does not take sides in any conflict. We do not endorse governments, opposition movements, military alliances, or political positions.
Our coverage presents verified facts from all parties. When parties make contradictory claims, we present each with clear attribution and available evidence. We do not use loaded language ("terrorists," "freedom fighters," "regime") except in direct quotes, which are always attributed.
Neutrality does not mean false equivalence. When verifiable evidence contradicts a claim, we note the discrepancy. When casualty figures from different sources diverge, we present the range and identify each source.
Corrections Policy
Errors happen. When they do, we correct them promptly and transparently:
- Minor corrections (typos, formatting, broken links) are fixed silently with an updated timestamp.
- Factual corrections (wrong numbers, misattributed quotes, incorrect dates) receive a visible correction note at the top of the article and are logged on our corrections page.
- Significant errors (wrong identification, misleading framing) trigger an editor's note explaining what was wrong and why, plus an update to the corrections log.
To report an error, email contact@warecho.com with the article URL and a description of the issue.
Update Policy
Conflict situations change rapidly. We update articles when:
- New verified information becomes available that changes the story
- Casualty figures are revised by official sources
- A claim we reported is confirmed or debunked
- Significant new developments occur related to the article's topic
All updates include a visible "Last updated" timestamp. Live blog entries are timestamped to the minute.
