The United Arab Emirates expressed on April 9 that it was following with great attention the announcement by United States President Donald Trump regarding a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, emphasizing its desire to receive further clarification on the agreement’s terms.
UAE Demands Complete Iranian Compliance
In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UAE explained that Iranian security attacks targeting infrastructure, energy facilities, and civilian locations over the past 40 days — encompassing approximately 2,819 ballistic missiles, drones, and unmanned aerial vehicles — along with losses in personnel and material damage, required the use of decisive measures.
The statement called upon Iran to provide full compensation for damages and losses.
Regional Demands: Nuclear Program, Missiles, Proxies
The UAE also emphasized that Iranian threats must be comprehensively and completely resolved, including:
- Nuclear capabilities
- Ballistic missiles
- Unmanned aerial vehicles
- Military capacities
- All instruments and terrorist branches in the region
- Threats endangering freedom of navigation, economic warfare, and piracy in the Strait of Hormuz
The statement expressed hope for achieving lasting peace for all countries in the region.
UAE’s Role: Neutral Party or Active Diplomat?
The UAE confirmed it was not a party to this war, but had invested intensive diplomatic efforts to reach a peaceful solution before its outbreak. These efforts included bilateral channels and activities within the framework of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The Emirates stressed it had firmly protected its sovereignty, security, and national interests, emphasizing the necessity for Iran to implement United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), adopted on March 11, 2026, condemning Iranian attacks and demanding their immediate cessation.
