Lithuania to deploy troops along Kaliningrad border after Latvia-Belarus incidents

Lithuanian Interior Minister Martynas Katelynas asked for Armed Forces units to reinforce the border with Russia's Kaliningrad exclave. He called it a preventive step after armed border breaches from Belarus into Latvia on Oct. 6 and amid reports Russia may announce mobilization. Explosive device kills two 14-year-old boys in Sumy Oblast

Governor Oleh Hryhorov said two teenagers found an explosive device in a field in Konotop district on Oct. 7. The device detonated and both died at the scene from severe injuries. Konotop lies about 65 km from the Russian border, where unexploded ordnance remains a persistent civilian risk.

Russian missile kills 20 in Pryluky apartment block, including 5 children

BBC and Kyiv Independent report a Russian cruise missile destroyed a five-story apartment building in Pryluky, Chernihiv Oblast, early on Oct. 7. Officials said 20 people were killed, including five children, three of them one-year-olds, with more than 50 wounded. Across Ukraine the day's death toll rose to about 25-30. Moscow said the strike targeted military industries and did not mention Pryluky.

According to the head of NATO's Military Committee, military representatives from all 32 NATO member states have arrived in Kyiv for the first time in eight years. The purpose of the visit has not been disclosed.

Evening drone strike hits Kyiv apartment building, injures 4 including children

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a Russian drone hit the 10th floor of a 12-story residential building in Darnytskyi district at 22:23 local time on Oct. 7. Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported fire, partial structural damage, four injured including two children, and 22 people rescued from the building.
