A 15-year-old Palestinian was shot dead during a settler raid on a West Bank village this week. Days earlier, an Israeli drone strike in Gaza City killed Al Jazeera correspondent Mohammed Wishah.
Settler Attack on West Bank
Youssef Sameh Shataleh, 15, died during an Israeli settler attack on a village near Nablus in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Authority said.
The Israeli military said soldiers opened fire on a Palestinian who was throwing stones at troops during a raid in the area. The Palestinian Authority confirmed the teenager’s death.
Former Israeli security chiefs warned that what they described as “government sponsored Jewish terrorism” in the West Bank is out of control. Settler attacks on Palestinian villages have risen sharply since the start of the Iran war, with military resources pulled toward the Lebanese and Iranian fronts.
Al Jazeera Journalist Killed
Mohammed Wishah, a correspondent for Al Jazeera Mubasher, was killed in an Israeli drone strike in Gaza City on April 8.
The Israeli military claimed Wishah was a “Hamas terrorist.” Al Jazeera rejected the accusation and condemned the killing, calling it a targeted attack on a member of the press.
He is the latest in a long line of journalists killed during the Gaza conflict. Press freedom organizations have repeatedly demanded investigations into the deaths of media workers in the territory.
The Broader Picture
Violence in the West Bank has escalated steadily since the Gaza war began in October 2023. The Iran war, which started in February 2026, has pulled international attention and military resources further away from the Palestinian territories.
Settler attacks, military raids and displacement of Palestinian communities continue with limited international response. The United Nations has documented hundreds of incidents but has been unable to halt the violence.
