Multiple U.S. outlets reported that the aircraft carrier USS George Washington is moving west toward the Middle East as the USS Abraham Lincoln approaches nine months on station for the Iran war. USNI News tracked the George Washington group heading west; the Wall Street Journal and The Hill separately reported a fresh carrier deployment amid strain on the Lincoln. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has disputed characterizations of poor conditions aboard the deployed carrier.

U.S. Central Command said on Aug. 13 it is establishing Task Force Falcon Strike, described as its first multi-domain, multinational unit for one-way attack drones operating in the air, on the surface, and underwater. CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper said the force will expand on Task Force Scorpion Strike with U.S. and regional partner staff. The command said it has begun inviting regional partners, with SOCCENT personnel leading the staff.

The United Arab Emirates condemned what it called a hostile Iranian attack on two ships linked to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) while they transited the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday evening. ADNOC said the situation was brought under control and no injuries were reported. Iran did not immediately comment. The UAE Foreign Ministry called the action piracy and a threat to regional stability and global energy supply. ADNOC says 15 of its vessels have been attacked in the strait since the war began in February, including a similar incident reported last Saturday.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the United States can sustain its naval blockade against Iran indefinitely, according to Al Jazeera live coverage of the war. Vice President JD Vance separately said Washington aims to keep US energy prices stable, prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, and leave the conflict in a position of strength. Tehran continues to assert control over the Strait of Hormuz and seeks payment for transit while US forces restrict Iranian shipping.

The United States lost at least 45 MQ-9 Reaper drones during Operation Epic Fury, about 25 percent of its prewar fleet, the Washington Post reported citing three US officials, as summarized by the Jerusalem Post. A fourth official said some losses were not from shoot-downs but from lost communications between drone and operator. The Defense Department declined to comment. In July a US official had put Iranian Reaper shoot-downs at roughly 30. Gen. Kenneth S. Wilsbach told Congress in May the Reaper was among the most valuable US systems in the war.
